So we are back in California after our week in Hawaii. We had a fabulous time just being lazy, laying in the sand, walking around town and exploring the beaches around the island.
While we were there, there was a May 1st festival and the Spam Jam {yes, everything was made with Spam!} right by our hotel. It was great to get to experience all the local fun that Waikiki had to offer. I've stayed on this part of the island many times but had never been to anything like either events. The locals are so friendly and warm in nature that you forget that you're miles away from home.
On Thursday, we drove to the Southeast part of Oahu and stopped at Lanikai Beach and Hanauma Bay for swimming and snorkeling. The kids had such a great time building sand castles and finding sea shells.
On Friday, we went to the Honolulu Zoo, again, right down the street from where we were staying. After that, we hung around Waikiki and watched another beautiful sunset. Saturday we celebrated my birthday with dinner at a favorite restaurant of mine, where the band sang me 'Happy Birthday' and brought out the best apple bread cake ever! On Sunday, we celebrated Jake's birthday with a giant chocolate cupcake, which he LOVED! Even though we share a birthday, I thought it was nice to spend two days celebrating {I mean, the more birthday fun, the better, right?}.
Oh, and the flight home was perfect.. like, a whole new baby was flying home with us perfect. I have no idea what changed because I was ready for another horrible flight, but it was like some birthday miracle that Jake was really calm and quiet on the flight home.
And I have to give a shout out to the best hubby ever for taking us on this great holiday to celebrate my 30th birthday and Jakob's 1st! We are really lucky to have him!
Have a wonderful Tuesday.
