Simple Multipurpose Shell Garland

If you are like me and you collect shells {I have jars and jars and more jars from beaches all over the world} then here is a simple craft for you. Even if you don't collect shells but are looking for a beach inspired, summertime craft to add some decor to your home, then this simple, multipurpose shell garland is right up your alley.

Supplies:
  • Medium sized shells, either bought or found/collected {find some here}
  • Hemp or burlap rope/twine {found here or here}
  • Electric drill
Directions:
  • For each shell, drill 1-2 small holes using a long, thin drill bit. However, the size will correlate with the thickness of your rope.
  • Cut each rope to 2.5 feet long
  • Tie a knot at the top of the rope/twine
  • Slide the first shell on and loop through the shell, making sure it is tight and in place before moving on to the next shell
  • Slide another shell on, looping through about 2 inches from the last shell
  • Continue doing this until you have 5 shells on the rope
  • For the base, tie a sixth shell on, making a knot on the shell to hold in place
  • Make as many as you want and use for a hanging display on it's own, to hold up a frame, in a jar, on a table, as a windchime or so many other, creative ways!

  3. This is so fun,and easy as well! What a beautiful, but classic, touch of the beach. I'm originally from VA but now live in the Midwest- I think next time I visit I might grab some shells to make this when I get back for my dorm room to maintain a little piece of my beach(: Great tutorial.
