Travel: Konstanz on Lake Konstanz {Bodensee}, Germany

Aw, how I love to reminisce of times past and the places my family and I have visited. Today is no different and being that I'm one of these people who remembers dates very easily (at least once a day I will think of all the things I've done in the past on that day, weird?) I'm overcome with memories of what I was doing this time last year.
We had some friends from California come stay with us while we were living in Switzerland and we took a day trip to the city of Konstanz, Germany, on Lake Konstanz, also known as Bodensee.
Lake Konstanz is the third largest lake in Central Europe and has borders on Germany, Switzerland and Austria. There are boat rides from Germany over to Austria, sightseeing/dinner cuises and eleven islands. The Rhine River flows into the lake, and there is a beautiful, old, huge univeristy right in Konstanz.
When we visited, the weather was typical for May. It was partly cloudy with passing rain. We parked in the city and walked over to the docks, where there are restaurants, performers, a large playground and park for kids, shops, beer gardens, and even a sea life aquarium. In the city, there are churches, more amazing restaurants and shopping galore.
The statue of the woman by the lake is called Imperia. It is so beautiful (and huge) close up.
We had such a fun time letting the kids run around, eat ice cream and watch the boats come into the harbor. Overall, Konstanz and Lake Konstanz is worth the trip if ever in this part of Europe...Austria, Switzerland or Germany.

  9. Sigh... I toured Germany twice as a child... My Great Uncle lived in Bremerhaven and so we got to tour much of the country. I miss it so much. The carriage ride in Cuxhaven still lasts as a beautiful memory for me.

I can remember dates as well. It's crazy-weird as I've gotten older though...I often can't remember what I wore to church last Sunday, but I can tell you my 2nd grade "boyfriend's" birthday. Go figure!
