Last July, while driving home from a week long vacation in Cesenatico, Italy, we stopped off in Lake Como. It was just about the halfway point to our home in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. It was a last minute decision to stop off but I'm sure glad we did. Not only was it time to get out of the car and stretch, but the beauty of the lake and the amazing homes (um...yeah, more like palatial mansions) were like nothing I've ever seen. I was hoping for a glimpse of George Clooney, but it turned out he was there the weekend after.
The thing that struck me about Lake Como was that the area surrounding the lake was very rich and beautiful, however, the towns just on the outskirts were nothing special; like, they had almost a run down feeling. Still, the buildings were old and had that European feel to them, just not upkept the way that the buildings around the lake did. That's Italy for you though. I found that you are either in a super nice, picturesque town or an old, kind of run down area. I still really love this country though; it reminded a lot of California.
Overall, I'd say if you ever have the chance to visit Lake Como, even if just for the afternoon, do! You won't regret it and you'll get some great photos!

DeleteWhat a gorgeous place to stop! I don't think I'd ever actually want a mansion, but I sure love to look at the outsides of other people's huge houses--it's such a fun and mysterious sight to wonder who lives in them?
