5 Reasons my Husband is a Great Father

Let me start by saying that my husband is a wonderful father. No really, he is. And on those days when I seriously want to punch him in the throat for whatever reason {probably not even over something he did} I can't even be mad at him because when I see him with our kids, I turn all mushy. I can't help a handsome, active man with with his kids. True, there are times when he gets just as tired or frustrated with our children as I do and he has his moments where he questions his abilities as a father {parenting is hard, people} but he always is the calmer of the two of us, and usually helps to bring me back down to Earth after I've had a mommy moment.

Here are 5 reasons my husband is the best daddy...

  1. He takes the older kids on day trips to places I won't take them, because really, spending the day at the water park is no fun with a toddler attached to my boob and the older ones running in separate directions. This is a total dad outing that is best left for weekends when I need some time alone and he needs to get out of the house.
  2. He's random with them... and by this I mean he rocks at spur of the moment fun. He will walk into a room and say, "Who's ready?" and then leave with the kids to pretty much anywhere; the park, the mall, mini golfing, fishing...you name it, he'll take them. I'm more of a planner and need to know what I'm doing that day when I first wake up. I guess you could say I'm the boring parent to his more outgoing parenting.
  3. He sets a good example of how a man should be and treat a women. He is a wonderful husband and terrific role model in that he is so hard working and in how he treats me. We have two sons and I find it very important that my husband sets the foundation to the kind of men I want my sons to become. I also want our daughter to see what a good man looks like. We are pretty strict parents and expect a fair amount from our children, and teaching them how to respect one another is high on our list of priorities.
  4. He has two sons but the relationship he holds with our daughter melts my heart. She adores him and he her. I know it's in part because she is the oldest and has the most outgoing personality, but these two are like two peas in a pod {they can also hold a good argument like no ones business, too}. The fact that he is so sensitive to her needs and deals quite well when she's upset makes me so proud that I picked him to have children with.
  5. He takes the time to be a great father. By this I mean that from when he gets home from work until the kids are in bed {usually from 6:30- 8:30} he is one devoted papa. He has this power to turn off work mode and turn on fun mode and play "extreme tickle fight" and other daddy/kid only activities. Not only is it a great way for me to get my stuff together, but my kids are so thrilled when he walks in the door and to spend time with their daddy. Even on days when he has hours of work left to do, he always makes time for our kids, always.
I didn't know what kind of father my husband would be before we had babies and it never occurred to me that he could be bad at it. Coming from the father I had, anything would have been better as long as he stayed. Seeing how happy my husband makes our children on a daily basis, and the fact that they cry when he leaves for business trips, only solidifies it more for me that my husband is one of the best daddies out there.

Happy Father's Day, babe! We love you! And a very warm Father's Day to all the other wonderful, hard working daddies out there!!

  3. What a wonderful husband you have, and a great father to your children. #3 is SO vital and unfortunately not everyone has someone to set that example for them in life. Your kiddos are blessed. Happy Father's Day!

  5. Aww... my husband is totally the same way, SO good with the kids and definitely the more patient parent between the two of us (in my defense, I've been dealing with them all day, he's coming in "fresh" from work and actually having adult conversations). And I totally agree, even when I'm frustrated with him about something, totally heart-melting to see him with our kiddos. :)

  15. It sounds like you have a great man and daddy there! Your kids are lucky and so are you. I hope my husband is a great daddy to. I have a good feeling about him. I like how your hubby is spontaneous with the kids. I'm a planner to, so spontaneity isn't my strongest aspect.
