Exploring the Castle TerWorm, Netherlands

It was our first full day in the Netherlands and we visited a few different spots around where we are staying. Our first stop was at a castle turned hotel and restaurant, the Kasteel TerWorm in Heerlen. I'm telling you, this place is so serene. It is very green and the small forest around it had the loudest chirping birds singing for everyone while was strolled around the garden and fountains.
This Castle was built in 1787 and turned into a hotel in 2003. My husband has stayed in this hotel many times and raves about the outdoor restaurant and bar. We didn't stay to eat because someone *cough, my 13 month old crazy child, can't do restaurants anymore.

Speaking of crazy babies, the flight over to Europe from Los Angeles was quite eventful. My son, my sweet baby, was awful! Like, I never want to fly again awful. I've flown alone many times to Europe with infants, toddlers and older children and never experienced what I did on Friday. I'm telling you, I was that mom... you know, the one who looks like her head is going to explode because she is trying so hard to keep calm in front of all the strangers she is sitting with. Yeah, that was me. With the screaming one year old in the middle of an 11 hour flight, trying oh so desperately to get him to sleep when all he really wants to do is downward dog in the middle of the aisle. It was fun.
And on top of that, my older two, the two with whom I have NEVER had issues with while flying, kept fighting with each other. Once the lights went out and everyone fell asleep, life got much easier for this momma. But hey, we made it safe and are having a blast. I swear though, he better shape up over the next 6 weeks before we have to fly home or else I will probably lose it for sure ha!

Have a wonderful day and more from the Netherlands tomorrow!

  2. The photos look amazing and the kids look happy now. Sorry to hear about your awful flight, your memory will fade about the experience as I have 3 daughters and cannot remember a single bad flight (my husband however tells a different story)

  13. Haha love the recap of how the flight went. We've all been there. We'll all be there. You have to be "that" mom at least once in your life, it's like a right of passage. ;) I AM jealous of how long it took for you to be that mom, though. I'm her daily.

  15. Gorgeous photos Ashleigh! My husband is Dutch, born and raised, and we visit The Netherlands often, but have yet to go to Heerlen, it sounds lovely. And I'm glad you survived the flight over, it sounds like it was very challenging to say the least. Here's hoping subsequent flights will be smoother! :)
