Saturday in Amsterdam

Happy Monday everyone! Over the weekend, we finally ventured out of the city of Maastricht and made our way to Amsterdam. The weather could not have been more perfect for a day spent outside as a tourist.

We arrived about 1p and hit the ground running (ok, maybe not running but you get the idea). I had made a detailed list of everything I wanted to see and the order in which to see them lol. This actually made things so much easier with the kids because in the past while traveling, we've been known to just show up in a new city and see what happens... not such a good idea with three kiddos.

We parked in the city center and went from there, exploring through this wonderful, vibrant city. We saw every major attraction and had the best Italian dinner about 200 meters from the Anne Frank House Museum. Unfortunately though, we were unable to go inside the Anne Frank House because the lines were just too long and the kids were not having it. I guess we'll just have to go back again and plan on long lines.

If you have not been to Amsterdam, let me just tell you it's such an amazing city! I fell in love right away. Maybe due to the weather being so perfect but everyone was in a great mood, hanging out on their boats, parties everywhere and kids enjoying running in the parks and grass areas. The city is pretty youthful and carefree, it was such a relaxed atmosphere to be in. If you can get over the whiffs of cannabis smoke every now and then (more on that in tomorrow's post), then I think most people would find Amsterdam to be a pretty special city. Even my hubs, who has been dragging his feet on visiting the city, enjoyed it. We've even been talking about the possibility of living abroad there one day (yes, we are crazy people).

Please enjoy just a bit of the millions of touristy pictures I took...my favorite being when we found the bench from the book/movie A Fault in Our Stars *major fan girl moment ha!

  1. I started liking Amsterdam more after reading "The Fault in our Stars' and I saw that precious bench from the movie in this post. You actually sat on it! Wow. It's sad that you didn't go inside the Anne Frank House. I loved that 'Amsterdam' sign! Museum looks amazing. Great pictures, too. I always love travel posts. Even more when there are places on my 'To Visit' list. (I guess I'm getting too excited here!)

    1. I saw Amsterdam through the eyes of characters in the story lol I had to google the street name and location to find the bench... there were these older ladies from Germany sitting on them and I had my hubby, who speaks German, ask them to move so I could get the pic lol! Then 2 more sets of American women asked them to move for pictures! It was so funny! Thank you!!

  7. I spent a day (well, 18 hours) in Amsterdam when I was in college, and I wish I could go back. I got close when we lived in Italy, but only as close as the airport several times. Our time out there was cut short, so I never did get to make it back. I have so many fond memories of that city!

  10. I completely agree with you - it's such a charming and friendly city. I loved our time there, albeit it was super short, only 36 hours before having to fly back to England to meet family. It's definitely a city where I could see us having an apart in. Loved it there!! Have a wonderful cup of java there - it's divine!

  11. Sounds like it was a really wise idea to plan everything in advance instead of just winging it--you guys did manage to see and do a lot of the big stuff of the city! I've never been.

  13. Amsterdam is such a fun city to visit. Did you do the boat tour? Looks like you had perfect weather for your trip, we had it a little colder when we visited but that didn't stop us wandering around all the little streets and crossing the many bridges. I have never seen so many bikes all in one place than just outside the train station. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
