Then, out of nowhere her hand goes flying over her mouth and she says, "You will never believe what Kate said in the car on the way to the rehearsal dinner!"
Seeing the expression on her face and the look in her eyes, I knew this was going to be good. Now, some quick facts: Kate is my friend's daughter who just turned 10, and the rehearsal dinner was at BJ's Restaurant Brewhouse.
Ok, so my friend continues with, "Kate was trying to be funny and says, "I know what a BJ is!"" To which my mouth goes flying open, my hand slaps the table and like an old fashioned cartoon, my eyes come bulging out of their sockets. So many thoughts go running through the brain in a moment like that.
"What the..." is all I could get out. My friend is shaking her head in agreement and says, "I know, I about died and Jim {a police officer} about crashed the car! I turned around to make eye contact with Kate and ever so gently replied, 'what does it mean?'"
Thoughts: can you imagine if your 10 year old or any aged child for that matter said something to you like that? I haven't gotten there with my kids and I'm hoping I never will have to.
Kate, with a little smirk on her face replied, "Duh, it means... Bladder Jina!" What the...? Bladder Jina? What is a bladder jina and where does it come from you might ask? Well, my friend and her husband were thinking the same as they pulled into the packed BJ's parking lot. Apparently, a bladder jina is the punchline to a joke Kate had created, only, unbeknownst to her she almost gave her parents major heart attacks.
In a situation like that, as a mother, I know I would have assumed the worst the second those words came out of my child's mouth. Like, where did you hear that or did someone hurt you? I think my friend handled herself well considering no parent wants to hear those words. No one wants to see their children lose their innocence; it's one of the best qualities that children possess.
Have you experienced an awkward parenting moment that made your heart stop for a second? Please share!! And have a wonderful weekend!
I feel like I would have thought the worst as well! You never know what will come out of little ones mouthes! We know that with our son, he's always listening. Although we haven't had a moment like that yet. We do have to be careful when we talk about someone when he's around, he's been known to tell the person what we've said..
ReplyDeleteHahahaha our son is only 2.5 and he has already said some bizarre, misunderstood things! I can't imagine what else will come out of his mouth! Haha!
ReplyDeleteBAHAHAHA I am dying as I read this!! I bladder jina? Might have to start incorporating that into my vocab!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, love it! These are those moments that as a parent, you just can't be prepared for. Hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious!! Kids are too funny!
ReplyDeleteHahahah that is too good! I don't have kids, but I always remember repeating a cuss word I would hear my parents say when they were mad!
ReplyDeleteI think your friend handled herself really well, I would have literally blown my top and asked questions later :P Children and sent to try us!
ReplyDeletehaha... Yes with 5 kids we have many awkward moments. Pretty much a daily occurrence. A funny one that comes to mind though is from my niece. We were out at a restaurant and her dad said something funny... she giggled and said "You are such a bastard". What??? But, what it ended up being was she overheard a show her parents were watching and they had called a funny guy a bastard. She thought it meant just that- a funny guy. So, what gave us all minor heart attacks was really her trying to sound grown up with a compliment she overheard. Thank you TV- ha!!
ReplyDeleteOh my god!!! Hahah! That's so funny but not for your friend! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteI love your fall dress pics; surprisingly inquire like the bottom middle and I'm not crazy about floral.
Sounds hilarious! I remember as a child I got a shake and it had a cherry in it, and I was like "why do I need a cherry?" And my poor grandma freaked, thinking I was talking about something else.

Bless 'em! I have a funny story about my then 2 year old in a supermarket talking at the top of his voice as I put tampons in the trolley - apparently he knew what they were for and wanted to tell the whole supermarket. I will leave it to your imagination but suffice to say he was wrong!
ReplyDeleteOh no, that's so awkward! At least the story turned out well. We're definitely not there yet. Yikes! Thanks for sharing at the Manic Mondays blog hop!
