A Healthy Halloween +Wednesday Linky!

Tonight, we are headed to another festive Halloween get together for the kids, where their will be candy treats and goodies... & it's at my gym lol! I love watching the excited looks on my kids faces every time they get dressed up in their costumes and participate in another party or group activity. But by the time Halloween rolls around, we've already collected a bucket full of candy, consumed way too many sweets and worn through our costumes. Is it just me or does that kind of take away from actual Halloween night?

Anywho, as a parent who really takes the time to feed my kids right and keep things as healthy as possible around the house, I limit the amount of candy my kids can have around Halloween {I might even pack up half the lot and send it to work with the Hubs to leave at the office shhh}. I'd love to hear how you and your family keep the candy intake to a minimum during this week of candy overload? And how do your kids handle that? Do you like all the many Halloween events leading up to Halloween? I'm dying to know!

Now link up and have some fun!

Cherishing-a-sweet-life
♥Co-Host Christine // Cherishing A Sweet Life //Cazuela Cookie Bars with Maple Whipped Cream // In Puerto Rico, cazuela is a traditional pie usually made during the Christmas season. It is similar to a pumpkin pie but uses sweet potato, pumpkin, and coconut milk and usually contains no pie crust. I chose this recipe for not only the pumpkin lovers, but {and I know I am not alone} for those of us who don't dislike pumpkin pie, but I'm just not that thrilled about it. I don't know if it was the coconut milk, the sweet potato or the nutmeg, but after only one bite, I wanted more. The combination of the coconut milk and heavy cream, layered with the sweet potato and nutmeg flavor, really enhanced the flavor of this almost pumpkin pie dessert. 1. We limit how much little man has just in general. I have a friend who does "Halloween Fairy" since her daughter can't have dairy which takes out most of the candy that she gets. The kids get to pick 5-10 pieces of candy to keep and the rest they "exchange" for something like an itunes giftcard for their ipod or a new outfit for their american girl doll. Then she brings the rest of the candy to work.

  2. Hilarious meme about the Omega 3 and Quinoa. I remember as a child always HATING the people who handed out raisins, apples, and coins to trick or treaters. COME ON WHERE ARE THE SNICKER BARS?! Cheers xoxo

  3. I've just read about something called the "Switch Witch" where you let your kids keep 5 pieces of candy, and the rest they leave for the switch witch. She then brings them a small toy or game. I thought it was kind of cute, and a great way to get rid of all that candy.

  5. We didn't trick or treat growing up and I don't have kids but as an adult I really like the holiday...granted now instead of bite-sized candy bars we have cocktails. I think a day or so of the candy is okay but I'm sure it can get over whelming when you have a week + of events.

  7. We're on the same shoes, Ashleigh. I don't want to feed children with a lot of candies, too. Nothing is ever worse than having a toothache. I like the idea of having a healthy Halloween. Giving a pumpkin pie or smoothy would be a lot better.

  8. I love that meme :) Funny, actually just wrote about this on my blog (and my neighbors who only let their kids go trick-or-treating for Unicef--NO CANDY!) Personally, I think that's going a bit too far, but I see nothing wrong with giving kids a few treats and then sending the rest off to your hubby's place of work. Kids really do come home with way too much.
