Crunchy Slug Croissants

Throwing a campout, a birthday party for a child who loves bugs, or wanting to add a bit of ooey crunch to your Halloween get together this year? Then these delicious croissants are just what you need to get everyone excited.
Croissants are one of my favorite treats and really, you can do so much with them. I added avocado and chocolate to look like the inside of a slug {as though when you bite down those are the insides, ewwwww}. Then, I added chocolate chips for the eyes. I drizzled caramel over the chocolate slugs and some grated parmesan cheese over the avocado croissants. Two different versions for whatever mood you are in. And they look super cute, the kids are sure to enjoy them.

What you need:
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 can croissant dough {8}
  • pinch of salt
  • chocolate pudding {white chocolate might look cool, too}
  • 16 chocolate chips
  • caramel topping {optional}
  • grated parmesan {optional}

What you'll do:
  • Mash 1 avocado in a bowl until only slightly lumpy and add a pinch of salt to taste
  • Unroll croissant dough and place on baking sheet
  • Apply avocado to 4 croissants
  • Apply chocolate pudding to remaining croissants
  • Roll dough into crescents and bake at 375 for 7 minutes or until brown
  • Remove and while still warm, add chocolate chip eyes to each slug
  • Drizzle caramel on the chocolate croissants and add grated parmesan to the avocado slugs for a bit of texture and taste.
  • Let cool and enjoy these crunchy, gooey treats!

  11. This Slug recipe is creative and fun! Although it's perfect for birthday parties with a nature theme, it can also be used as an appetizer for Halloween. Thanks you for sharing your recipe for this unique and delicious treat. :-)

  12. I'm not sure if I love these or want to run screaming! You see, more than once I have stepped on a slug while barefoot. Ew! However, I imagine they (the croissants) taste amazing and I am 100% positive that my son would love them.
