I know it might be strange but my hubs and I have been taking selfies with each other since before selfies were an actual thing! We didn't even have a name for it, we just used to say we had to take a picture the way that we do ha. It all started back in 2005, with a throw away camera, when we were in Vienna for Christmas. We spent the day touring the city -in, I swear, the worst snow storm I had ever experienced; really, I almost lost a foot!- and took our first selfie in the garden at Schönbrunn Palace. Since then, we've taken selfies all over the world and on special holidays and events. It kind of has become our thing and something I look forward to doing with him. And now, with the creation of a selfie stick, we can get even better photos! Here's a super fun fact... at our engagement party, our first selfie was on the cake!
Today is the hubs and my 10 year anniversary! We got married on a Tuesday afternoon at the courthouse, one month before our planned church wedding. I know, I know, couldn't we have just waited until April to say "I do"? Apparently we couldn't ha. If you haven't figured it out yet, the hubs and I are a bit type A, he a little more so than me. None the less, we just didn't see the point in waiting an extra month to actually make it legal. We didn't even live together at the time but knew it was the right thing to do. {Did I mention he was on a work visa and needed a green card? Well, that may or may not have helped us make the decision}. We got two witnesses, drove to the courthouse, and got hitched! We laughed through the whole ceremony and had an absolute ball. It still makes my heart happy how silly the two of us pretty serious people were during our wedding. After, we drove to Quiznos, had some sammies, and went home.
A month later, we had a church wedding and celebrated with our friends and family in California. My husband's close family and friends came from Austria, and we had a wonderful white wedding.
While planning Heidi's baptism a year later, we thought it would be nice to get married again... why not, right?! We decided to have a traditional Catholic wedding in Austria for all of our extended Austrian family and friends. It was just as beautiful as wedding number 2, only I wasn't newly pregnant like the previous year, oops!
Anyhow, today marks 10 years and it feels amazing. Marriage can be so freaking hard at times, but also so darn rewarding. I was only 20 when I married and have basically grown into the women I am while being a wife. Having a husband is something I always wanted and being a wife is something I take very seriously. I have always felt so fortunate that my husband chose me to love and to be his partner in life. He is such a wonderful man and human... I recently told him this, but after all these years, I'm still so in awe of him. He is the smartest and hardest working person I have ever met. He's dependable, the best father to our children, and fills my life with adventure and enjoyment. I can't imagine a life without loving him and hope to never have to.
And since I'm not a super mushy person, here's a quote that sums marriage up for me...
10 years is a great long time! I wish you many more years of happiness!
